When I attempt to open THM™ I am getting the following message in yellow text: "performing cleanup routines" and nothing else happens. It just locks up and doesn't continue to open.

This problem will occur if you have created a budget using the default setting for pledges (found in "Chapters" -> "list Chapter" -> double click on your chapter) and then change the default from pledges to another name (i.e. New Member, Associate Member, etc.). If the budget goes unchanged you will not run into any problems. However, if you change the budget and try to re-enter The House Manger™, "performing clean-up routines" will appear and you will be unable to enter The House Manager™. This bug effects THM™ version 2.5.2 and lower. The simple fix is to download THM™ version 2.5.3 at www.summittech.com/THMDownload.html




Do I have to pay for updates?

Your chapter receives free updates through the next 1/2 version. So, if your chapter purchased THM™ v2.1 you can successfully update through THM™ v2.5. All you have to do is download it from our website. Be sure to notify our office if your contact persons email address has changed, this is how we send out update notices! You can email your update (include contact name, email address, chapter name, organization name, and contact telephone number) or call us at 888.833.7360 (toll free).




Do you have any suggestions as to how to back up the file containing the chapter information? Many brothers have showed some concern about the possible loss of information.

Backup is a VERY good thing to do. Luckily, with The House Manager™ you only have to backup one file. The *.4dd file is the data file for the pc and *.data for the mac. All the data that you have entered is in that file. This file should be at the following path: c:/THMv2/*.4dd for the pc and in the THMv2 folder for the mac. Simply backup that one file and that is it. The file will grow quickly beyond the size of a floppy disk. When that occurs, you will need to zip the file smaller or have some sort of backup program move it to several floppies. If it is bigger than 1.4 mb, get a copy of WinZip, at www.winzip.com, or some other zip utility, compress the *.4dd or *.data file then move it via floppy.




How do I register for The House Manager™? When I installed it, it flashed a request for a serial number, but I don't know where to find it. Please help.

Simply press continue without entering a serial key. After your time has expired THM™ will not allow you to continue without the serial key, at that point give us a call. The program is made this way so you can check it out before you buy it! Keep in mind, you will need to make a payment before a serial key will be issued. Is there documentation to The House Manager™? How do I get a copy?

Yes, and we recommend you use it! This is a very valuable resource with over 200 pages of explanations. There are several ways to obtain a copy of the documentation:
1. Download it form our

2. Order a copy in paper form. Check out our

3. If you have ordered the compact disk, it's already on there. To access the documentation, first click on the Acrobat 3.01 Installer Icon located in the THMv2 folder (if you don't have Adobe Acrobat 3.01 already installed on your computer). Secondly, open the documentation by clicking on THM_v2.5.pdf also located in the THMv2 folder. Finally, read the documentation! New updates for version 2.5 are located in the Appendix at the end of the documentation.




What do I do if the screen freezes up?
Pressing the ESCAPE KEY or holding down the COMMAND KEY (CONTROL KEY FOR PC) with the PERIOD KEY will close almost any window in The House Manager™. If you have trouble getting out of a screen, try using these techniques first before restarting your computer.




There is limited information on the help menu, where do I go?

The 'Help' file on THM™ contains a very minimal amount of information, it's all in the Documentation. This is because THM™ is written for both PC and Mac and this is not something that is easily compatible with both. The documentation is a very valuable resource with over 200 pages of explanations. What if I accidentally make a mistake when entering in a payment or fee?

You are allowed to make changes to any fee or payment 2 days following the time at which the data was entered. This means if you make a mistake at 11:59 pm on Saturday, you have until 11:59 pm on Sunday to edit or delete the entry. Saturday is the first day and Sunday is the second day. After this time you will have to use adjustments to correct mistakes. To make an adjustment, select fee or payment, enter the adjusted amount and choose 'Adjustment' from the 'Charge Type' drop down menu.

This method will allow for mistakes to be corrected but still provide safety against unethical members tampering with financial records.




Is there any 'demo' data to use in evaluating The House Manager™?

Yes, and you can download it from out Download page. It has been zipped, so you will need some sort of zip utility (i.e. WinZip, at www.winzip.com for the pc and ZipIt, at www.awa.com/softlock/zipit/ for the mac)
